Pastor's Letter for May
There's always somebody needing help. And we do a tremendous job as a congregation of helping out. We raised over $700 for Catholic Charities on the last weekend of April. We had over $6,000 come from our congregation for the earthquakes in Haiti. We regularly step up and give.
The question our council now wrestles with is how we can better connect ourselves to these organizations in our world (both close and far away) beyond monetary contributions. Make no mistake, your generosity beyond our congregation in terms of financial giving is an incredible gift, and probably more important than our active "sweat equity" is to most of these organizations.
Indeed money is a big deal for all of these organizations, but from our own church perspective your investment of time can be a transforming gift for our entire congregation. Look at our High School Youth if you don't believe me. Come to church on the second Weekend in June and tell me if you cannot see the change in them after they work with impoverished youth in Southern California. This is why our council has recommended that we solicit ideas on how to spend $5000 of our congregation’s dollars outside of our congregation, but by more than just writing a check. We want to find ways to connect you to some of the wonderful ministries that surround us. How can we connect our dollars and our time? How can we inspire you to get involved in a terrific organization that our congregation supports? Got any ideas? Council has asked congregation members to work through our established committees to complete a request form available from the church office.
Questions? Please contact our council officers Don Kreger, President or Don Imsland, Vice President or Robin Castor, Secretary.
